Attending the Opening of Thomas Linacre's New Ultrasound Suite
Last Tuesday, I was honoured to speak at the opening of the new ultrasound suite at the Thomas Linacre Breast Clinic, alongside members of Boot Out Breast Cancer and our dedicated healthcare professionals.
I had chance to speak about my experience dealing with breast cancer last year, dealing with the side effects and fundamentally, how an ordinary mammogram check-up saved my life! I cannot thank our precious NHS enough, and all the staff at WWL and Salford Royal involved in my treatment.
PLEASE attend your mammogram appointment: I had no lumps, no bumps, no symptoms. Last year, 12,000 women in our area didn’t attend their check up; by the time symptoms arise, some of these women may be beyond help. So, PLEASE attend your check-up!
Wigan’s new ultrasound suite was funded by over £100,000 of generous donations from Boot Out Breast Cancer and WWL’s Three Wishes Charity, with £44,000 being raised by the recent 'In Pink' campaign!
The suite will enable Breast Consultants to diagnose patients more effectively and efficiently and will make a positive impact on reducing the waiting list for patients waiting for an ultrasound examination.
Dr Amruta Talwalkar, Director of South Lancashire Breast Screening Unit and Consultant Radiologist said: "We at The South Lancashire Breast Screening Service are very grateful and would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has so generously contributed to the 'InPink' campaign."
